Now that the dust has settled on the mayor results, I figured we could use a thread on what neighbors actually want to see happen. For anyone who didn't follow it, Chris Treat beat Councilman Walter Burgess 4,217 to 2,343, which is about 64%, and this is his first full term. Over in Ward 4, Position 1, Amy Edwards beat incumbent Jack Moseley 597 to 451. That's a much closer one, and it makes me wonder how many people even know who sits on the council for their ward.
I'll go first, and it's a pretty short list. Traffic is at the top. Anybody who has tried to get across town on a Sunday morning or around school pickup knows the roads were built for a much smaller Bryant than the one we've got now. Shobe Road is not a main drag, but it gets more cut-through traffic every year. Second is drainage and general road upkeep on the side roads. After a good rain you can tell which ditches haven't been touched in a while. Third, and this is my own little pet issue, I'd like the rules for things like yard sale signs and temporary event permits to be clearer. I help with church events and a few yard sales every year, and nobody I've asked seems to know exactly what's allowed, so we all just guess.
I'm sure other people have bigger priorities than signs, like growth, the schools, parks, police and fire staffing, or what gets built along Highway 5 and near the I-30 exits. I'd like to hear them.
I know elections can get people fired up, so let's keep it about what we want done and not about who we voted for. Nobody needs a replay of the campaign. If you have a specific problem in your part of town, say where it is. That's more useful than "fix the roads." What are you hoping they get to first?
